Sport Relief Mile 2014


More than 85 local people turned out in force on Sunday 23rd March at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Glossop. Milers of all ages were sponsored to do 1, 3 or 6 miles around Manor Park.

The runners battled weather conditions from wind, rain, hail, sleet and snow with friends, families and work mates all joining together to go the extra mile for Sport Relief 2014.Some runners wore fancy dress including onesies, super hero outfits and official sport relief clothing.

The team at St. Philip Howard Community Sport Department, who organised the event for the 4th time would like to thank all runners and spectators who committed to raising money and run in sub-zero temperatures. “It was a freezing cold day! Watching the community come together to support such a great cause was brilliant! We feel so proud knowing that the money raised here today will helppeople living really tough lives right here in Derbyshire, the UK and across the world.”

Thank you to Manor Park Bowling Club who provided their venue as a first aid point as well as hot drinks to the volunteers. An extra special thank you to the staff and students from St. Philip Howard Catholic School who volunteered at the event providing support with registration, marshalling and handing out medals and water as runners crossed the finish line.

All over the UK, people of all ages came together to run, swim or cycle at over 1,000 Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games events across the length and breadth of the country over the Sport Relief weekend.
